Watering properly.
Watering properly is critical to maintaining a healthy bonsai! Water thoroughly, soaking the bonsai’s soil. Never let a bonsai totally dry out.

Maintenance.
Keep your Gardenia bonsai outdoors in the winter, but do not allow the gardenia to freeze. For temperatures below 35ºF, bring your plant into your garage, basement, or home. Move plant back outside when temperatures move above freezing.

Fertilizing.
Fertilize with water-soluble or time released fertilizers.
